Lady Bucs Put Away Lions 75-62

Samantha Reeves scored a season-high 18 points in the Lady Bucs' 75-62 win over North Alabama Saturday afternoon.
Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs out-scored visiting North Alabama 9-4 over the final three minutes as they pulled away to a 75-62 win Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (8-6, 3-5) started the game with six straight points, but the Lady Bucs answered with a 17-4 run, capped by a Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) layup that gave them a 17-10 lead with 12:35 remaining, and they never trailed again. UNA battled back to a 19-all tie, but a 10-0 burst capped by an Erica Burgess (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) three-point play put CBU back in front 29-19.

The Lions trimmed the lead to 37-35 early in the second half on a Dakota Doss bucket, but Burgess and Ridgell combined for a 7-0 burst that gave CBU a 44-35 lead with 15:13 remaining, and UNA never came closer than four points again.

Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) scored a season-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting in 30 minutes, making a three-pointer and five of nine free throws. Ridgell scored 16, while Burgess scored 15 with eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Ashley Schaefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) tacked on 13 points with five assists and three steals.

Nichelle Fillmore led the Lions with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Delisa Madry tacked on 10 points.

After two straight games shooting under 40 percent, the Lady Bucs shot 47.9 percent (23-of-48) to just 36.2 percent (17-of-47) for the Lions. CBU shot 73.5 percent (25-of-34) from the free throw line, while the Lions were 91.7 percent (22-of-24). Each team grabbed 31 rebounds, 10 offensive, but the Lady Bucs forced 23 turnovers while committing 15.

The Lady Bucs conclude the first half of the GSC schedule with a pair of road games next week. They visit West Florida Thursday night at 5 p.m., and they visit Valdosta State Saturday night at 5 p.m.
