Lady Chargers Pull Away From Lady Bucs 78-62

Erica Burgess scored 20 points with six steals and six assists, but the Lady Bucs dropped a 78-62 decision to Alabama-Huntsville Thursday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS-Visiting Alabama-Huntsville outscored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 22-10 over the final 10:06 as they pulled away for a 78-62 win Thursday night at Canale Arena.

Neither team could pull away over the first 30 minutes, with three ties, five lead changes and no lead of more than eight points. But a Jordan Smith three-pointer with 10:06 remaining sparked a 9-0 burst that lifted the Lady Chargers (10-7, 5-6 GSC) to a 65-52 lead with 8:02 remaining. The Lady Bucs (10-7, 6-5) never came closer than 11 points again as UAH led by as many as 19 points in the final minutes.

Erica Burgess (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) scored 20 points with six assists, six steals and five rebounds in 38 minutes, and Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) scored 14 points with four rebounds as she was limited to 19 minutes due to foul trouble.

Smith led the Lady Chargers with 29 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Jasmine Hammon tacked on 21 points with six steals.

UAH shot 45.1 percent (23-of-51) for the game while holding the Lady Bucs to 35.1 percent (20-of-57). CBU out-rebounded UAH 37-35, including a 16-9 edge in offensive boards, and they forced 16 UAH turnovers while committing 15.

The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host West Alabama.
