Bucs Edge Statesmen 2-1

MEMPHIS-Senior forward Jose Ferraz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) capped a back-and-forth burst of late-game offense when he scored on a penalty kick in the 89th minute to lift the Christian Brothers University Bucs to a 2-1 win at Delta State Friday afternoon.

The game remained scoreless until the 80th minute, when Devon Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) found the net off a cross from Ferraz for his first goal of the season. The lead was short-lived, however, as Andrew Aur scored for the Statesmen (4-7, 1-4 GSC) off a free kick in the 85th minute.

With just 1:16 remaining in regulation, the Bucs (8-2, 4-1) drew a foul in the box, setting up Ferraz's game-winning penalty, his 10th goal of the year.

CBU controlled much of the action, out-shooting the Statesmen 19-6, but only 5-4 in shots on goal. Britton McGuire (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) made three saves, including one as time expired.

The Bucs hit the road again Sunday afternoon as they visit Mississippi College at 3 p.m. Their next home game is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. as they host Lee.
