CLINTON, Miss.-The Christian Brothers University Bucs conceded a first-half goal to host Mississippi College, but they scored in the second half to force overtime and late in the second overtime to claim a 2-1 win Sunday afternoon to remain in first place in the Gulf South Conference.
The Choctaws (7-4, 2-3 GSC) struck first in the 38th minute as Stephen Roberson scored off a cross from Brian Vasquez. In a non-conference game at Signaigo Field, it was a Vasquez assist for a Roberson goal that gave MC a 1-0 overtime victory.
Sunday, however, that goal would not be enough. In the 72nd minute,
Kevin Tikhomiroff (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Complexo Eucacional Contemporaneo) found
Devon Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) in the box, and Jackson scored his second goal in as many games to pull the Bucs (9-2, 5-1) even.
Neither team wold find the net again until the 109th minute.
Diego Silva Vieira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Pitagoras) served a free kick into the box, and
Samuel Wilson (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) headed it in for his second goal of the season, and the Bucs' second overtime game-winner, with just 1:26 remaining in the second overtime.
The Choctaws out-shot CBU 20-19 for the game, including an 8-7 edge in shots on goal.
Britton McGuire (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) made seven saves for the Bucs to earn the win.
The Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they visit Ouachita Baptist. Their next home game is set for Friday night, Oct. 24, as they host Lee at 7 p.m.
