Hawks Upset No. 13 Bucs 2-0

PENSACOLA, Fla.-Fourth-seeded Shorter used a pair of first-half goals to upset the No. 13 Christian Brothers University Bucs 2-0 Friday night in the Gulf South Conference semifinals.

The Hawks (9-9-1) struck first in the 25th minute as Lucas Cavenco capitalized on a double-assist by Nico Stutley and Irvin Espinal. In the 29th minute, Espinal doubled their advantage as he scored unassisted on a long shot that curled into the top of the net.

The Bucs (14-3) out-shot Shorter 21-16 for the game, with each team taking seven shots on goal. Shane Keely (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste Ide) led the Bucs with five shots in the game, three on goal, and Brendan Bennett (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School) took four shots.

Britton McGuire (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) made five saves in the game for CBU.

The Bucs now await the NCAA Selection Show, which will air Monday night at 6:30 p.m. at ncaa.com.
