Box Score MEMPHIS-After shooting just 32 percent in a sluggish first half, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs shot 52 percent in the second half to put away West Alabama 54-47 Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.
Early on, the Tigers (4-13, 1-10 GSC) controlled the game, starting on a 15-6 run and leading by as many as 10 points at 24-14 on a Kelcia Bufkin three-point play with 3:46 remaining.
UWA held the lead into the second half, when CBU (11-7, 7-5) finally took the lead when a 13-0 run capped by a
Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) layup put them ahead 40-33 with 10:26 remaining. The Tigers never came closer than four points again.
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored a game-high 21 points with seven rebounds and three steals for the Lady Bucs, while
Erica Burgess (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) tacked on 13 with three assists.
Bufkin and Jada Williams led the Tigers with 11 points each.
For the game, the Lady Bucs shot 41.5 percent (22-of-53) to the Tigers' 35.3 percent (18-of-51). UWA held a 36-29 edge on the boards, including a 12-7 lead in offensive rebounds, but the Lady Bucs forced 18 turnovers while committing 13.
The Lady Bucs hit the road for their next three games, beginning Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they visit Shorter. Their next home game is Feb. 15 at 2 p.m., when they celebrate Homecoming against Lee.
