Box Score FLORENCE, Ala.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs outscored host North Alabama 19-3 over the final 5:14 as they pulled away to a 64-46 win Saturday afternoon in their final road game of the season.
After the teams traded baskets early, the Lady Bucs (13-11, 9-9 GSC) went on a 14-4 run capped by an
Ashley Schaefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) triple that gave them an 18-8 edge with 7:19 remaining in the first half.
CBU would never trail again, but the Lions (13-11, 8-10) used an 8-0 run to pull within 45-43 on a Delisa Madry free throw with 5:26 remaining.
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) answered with a basket 12 seconds later, drawing the fifth foul on UNA's Janae Lyde. The UNA bench was charged with two technicals on the play, first for not replacing Lyde in the allotted time and second for arguing the first technical. Ridgell sank five straight free throws to complete the seven-point play, giving CBU a 52-43 lead. After UNA's Alexis Pester knocked down a three-pointer 20 seconds later, the Lady Bucs shut them out the remainder of the game, scoring the final 10 points to set the final margin at 62-46.
Ridgell scored 25 points, knocking down 9-of-18 shots from the floor, including her only three, and 6-of-7 at the free throw line. Schaefer added a career-high 17 points with six rebounds.
Nichelle Fillmore led the Lions with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lady Bucs won despite shooting 36.4 percent (24-of-66), just their third win of the season when shooting under 40 percent from the floor. They held UNA to 35.3 percent (18-of-51) from the floor. UNA out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 50-33, including a 14-11 edge in offensive rebounds, but the Lady Bucs forced 27 UNA turnovers while committing just 10.
The Lady Bucs wrap up the regular season with three home games next week. They step out of GSC play Monday night at 5:30 p.m. as they host Lane in the makeup game of a game originally scheduled for Dec. 7. They host West Florida Thursday at 5 p.m. and Valdosta State Saturday at 2 p.m.
