Early on, the Lady Bucs appeared to have the game in hand, using an 11-3 run to take a 13-5 lead on a Reeves layup with 13:20 remaining in the first half, but Shorter (5-14, 3-10) answered with a 12-2 run and neither team led by more than six points again.
The Lady Bucs led 50-45 after a Burgess three-point play with 5:21 left, but the Lady Hawks went on a 10-2 run to take a 55-52 lead before Reeves' three forced overtime.
The overtime nearly followed the same script.
Emily Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) opened the overtime with a layup, and
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) followed with another bucket that gave CBU a 59-55 lead. Shorter scored the next six, however, before Emily Reeves tied the game with a pair of free throws with 1:05 remaining, setting up Burgess' game-winner with four seconds remaining.
