Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs ended a good regular season on a sour note, falling 50-44 to visiting Valdosta State on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Blazers (12-14, 7-13 GSC) took the lead late in the first half with a 9-0 run capped by an Amy Duke jumper, giving them a 25-20 lead with 3:50 remaining in the first half.
The Lady Bucs (15-12, 10-10) came back to tie the game at 36-all on a
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) jumper with 10:44 remaining, but VSU answered with an 8-0 run and the Lady Bucs never came closer than four points again.
CBU's only senior,
Erica Burgess (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS), led the Lady Bucs with 15 points and four steals.
Duke led the Lady Blazers with 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
For the game, the Lady Bucs shot 38.1 percent (16-of-42) for the game to VSU's 34.0 percent (16-of-47). CBU shot just 25 percent (5-of-20) in the second half. VSU out-rebounded the Lady BUcs 32-31, including a 10-8 edge in offensive rebounds, and they forced 19 CBU turnovers while committing 13.
With the loss, the Lady Bucs will be the No. 4 seed in next week's GSC Tournament at the Pete Hanna Center at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. The Lady Bucs will face No. 5 seed North Alabama Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. If they win, they would play in Saturday's 12:30 p.m. semifinal, with the championship game set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
