Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs jumped to a big early lead, but No. 5 seed North Alabama rallied to defeat them 62-54 in the quarterfinals of the Raymond James Gulf South Conference Tournament Friday afternoon.
The Lady Bucs (15-13) jumped to an 8-0 lead in the first four minutes, and after UNA (15-12) tied the game at 12, CBU used another 6-0 burst to take an 18-12 lead on an
Emily Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) jumper with 12:39 remaining. From there, the Lady Bucs went cold, and UNA took the lead for good with a 5-0 burst late in the first half, taking a 31-28 lead on a Janae Lyde layup with 1:42 remaining in the half.
UNA never trailed again, leading by as many as 10 points in the final minutes.
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored a game-high 19 points with eight rebounds and five steals for the Lady Bucs, while
Erica Burgess (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) added 14 with eight rebounds and two steals.
Lyde led the Lions with 17 points, while Delisa Madry scored 13. Jennifer Towne added 12 with a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Lady Bucs shot 36.2 percent (25-of-69) for the game, including an 0-for-14 day from three-point range. UNA was 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from the floor. UNA out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 45-37, but the Lady Bucs forced 19 UNA turnovers while committing nine.
UNA advances to play No. 15 Delta State in the semifinals tomorrow.
