Ferraz Carries Bucs Past No. 13 Lions 6-0

MEMPHIS-Senior forward Jose Ferraz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) scored a career-high four goals to lift the Christian Brothers University Bucs to a 6-0 win over No. 13 Lindenwood Saturday afternoon at Signaigo Field.

After a quiet 35 minutes to start the game, Ferraz opened the scoring in a big way with two goals in just 16 seconds. In the 36th minute, Sean Rutter (Bristol, England/Filton College) fed a cross to Ferraz, who scored a one-touch goal into the right side of the net to break the ice and put the Bucs (2-0) on the board. Just 16 seconds later, Ferraz intercepted a Lindenwood (1-1-2) pass, dribbled into the box and found the net again. Shane Keely (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste Ide) added a goal to the lead with just 25 seconds remaining in the half when he scored on a header off a long throw by Samuel Wilson (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS).

Ferraz scored two quick goals again in the second half, this time separated by just under two minutes. In the 72nd minute, Maurice Flaig (Freiburg, Germany/KGBK Bad Krozingen) dropped a pass from the end line to Ferraz at the top of the box for a goal, as Ferraz completed the first CBU hat trick in five years. He tacked on yet another goal in the 73rd minute as Keely intercepted a pass in the middle of the field and found Ferraz with a throughball for another goal. Paul Banks (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) set the final margin in the 78th minute as Devon Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) fed him a throughball for the final goal of the day.

Ferraz's four goals were the most for a CBU player since Mariano Ilari set the school record with five against Lincoln Memorial Oct. 19, 2003. It was the ninth hat trick in school history and the first since Zach Tubinis scored three against Rust Aug. 27, 2009.

For the game, the Bucs out-shot Lindenwood 20-6, including a 10-1 edge in shots on goal. Britton McGuire (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) and David Higgins (Fairview, Tenn./Fairview HS) combined for the shutout, with Higgins playing the final 20 minutes and making the Bucs' lone save.

The Bucs return to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. as they host Union in a non-conference game.
