Bucs Rally Past Bulldogs 4-3

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored four second-half goals as they rallied from three different deficits to win 4-3 over Union Tuesday night at Signaigo Field.

The Bulldogs (1-2) scored the only first-half goal in the 25th minute as Rodrigo Zonta scored unassisted.

The Bucs (3-0) equalized in the 46th minute as Jose Ferraz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) scored his sixth goal of the season on a penalty kick, but Union regained the lead in the 53rd minute on a Guilherme Dorigo goal.

Sean Rutter (Bristol, England/Filton College) equalized for the Bucs in the 69th minute as he headed in a corner kick from Kevin Tikhomiroff (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Complexo Eucacional Contemporaneo) to tie the game at two.

The Bulldogs took the lead for a final time in the 83rd minute as Nil Cierco scored on a free kick from just beyond the 18-yard box, but the Bucs answered just over a minute later as Jose Ferraz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) scored off a long throw-in by Samuel Wilson (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS).

Just as the game appeared headed for overtime, Shane Keely (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste Ide) scored a goal from nearly 40 yards out in the 88th minute to give the Bucs a 4-3 lead. Union had one final chance in the waning seconds, but their free kick deep in CBU territory sailed wide left for a goal kick and time expired.

For the game, the Bucs out-shot Union 16-8, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. The physical match saw 39 fouls and seven yellow cards.

The Bucs return to action Thursday night at 7 p.m. as they host Rhodes at Signaigo Field.
