Chargers Down Bucs 75-71

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs came back from a 13-point first-half deficit to tie the game, but they were unable to repeat the feat in the second half as they lost 75-71 to Alabama-Huntsville Monday night at Canale Arena.

The Chargers (12-4, 7-3 GSC) used a 12-4 run early in the game to open a 17-8 lead on a Kip Owens bucket with 13:15 remaining in the half, and they extended their lead to 27-14 when Spencer Palmer knocked down a three-pointer with 6:59 remaining. The Bucs (8-6, 5-5) ended the first half on a 14-3 run to pull within 34-32 on a Charlie Oswald (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) triple, and Sidy Sall (Dakar, Senegal/Seeds Academy) sank a pair of free throws to start the second-half scoring and tie the game at 34 with 16:34 remaining.

CBU tied the game four more times in the next three minutes, but UAH regained the lead for good with a 9-0 run capped by a Taylor Chapman three-pointer that gave them a 52-43 lead with 9:26 remaining. A 9-2 burst pushed the lead back to 13 points as a Seab Webster three-pointer gave them a 61-48 lead with 5:10 remaining.

CBU used an 8-0 burst capped by a Sall three-point play to pull within 66-62 with 1:11 remaining in the game, but the Chargers never allowed CBU closer as they salted the game away at the free throw line.

Sall led the Bucs with 23 points and nine rebounds, and Jeff Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) scored 16 with four rebounds and three assists. Oswald scored 15 points on five three-pointers, and Ryan Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) scored 12 with six assists and five rebounds.

The Chargers shot a sizzling 57.4 percent (27-of-47) from the floor to the Bucs' 47.5 percent (28-of-59). UAH out-rebounded the Bucs 29-28, but the Bucs grabbed 10 offensive boards to the Chargers' four and forced 10 UAH turnovers while committing seven.

The Bucs return to action Thursday night at 8 p.m. as they visit Union. Their next home game is Thursday night, Jan. 22, as they host Shorter at 7 p.m.
