MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs held visiting LeMoyne-Owen to just six hits in a doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon to open the season for both schools.
GAME 1:WHAT HAPPENED:Junior pitcher
Jack Parker (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) tossed five hitless innings to lead the Bucs to a 7-4 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Magicians (0-2) struck first with a run on three walks in the first, and they scored a run on two walks, a balk and a wild pitch in the second.
• The Bucs (2-0) exploded for five runs in the bottom of the second.
Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS),
Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) and
Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) hit consecutive singles to start the inning. After
Trey Keppen (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) was hit by a pitch to load the bases,
Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Kilgore scored on an error after a
Myles Holliman (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) single to give the Bucs the lead, and
Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) drove in two runs with a two-out single to give CBU a 5-2 lead.
• Cooley drove in two more in the sixth inning.
Blain Curtis (Atoka, Tenn./Tipton Rosemark Academy) led off with a double, and
Cameron Coker (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) worked a two-out walk. Cooley laced a double down the right-field line to give CBU a 7-2 lead.
• The Magicians scored two more in the top of the seventh when Anthony Owen hit a two-out two-run single after an error, a single and a hit batter loaded the bases.
KEY STATS:• Cooley went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI
• Coker was 1-for-1 and drew three walks
• Caleb Goodwin was 2-for-2 with a walk
• Parker earned the win. In five innings, he allowed two runs on no hits and five walks against eight strikeouts.

Michael Lartigue (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) earned his first save. He allowed two unearned runs on three hits in two innings. He struck out two.
GAME 2:WHAT HAPPENED:CBU pitchers
Patrick Gurley (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) and
Jake Porter (Mount Juliet, Tenn./Mount Juliet HS) combined for a three-hit shutout as the Bucs won 7-0 in the second game, which was called due to darkness in the sixth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• CBU opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning.
Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) singled and moved to third on a Caleb Goodwin double down the right field line.
Stephen Joe (Madison, Miss./Ridgeland HS) followed with a two-run double down the right field line.
• CBU added two more in the third. Holliman doubled and Coker walked. Cooley hit an RBI double to score Holliman, and Coker scored on a Caleb Goodwin sacrifice fly.
• CBU scored three more in the fifth to set the final margin. Cooley doubled,
Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) singled and Caleb Goodwin walked. Joe was hit by a pitch to score one run, and
Josh Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) hit a sacrifice fly to give CBU a 6-0 lead. Holliman drew a bases-loaded walk to set the final margin.
KEY STATS:• Cooley went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI
• Kelly was 2-for-3
• Caleb Goodiwn was 1-for-1 with a walk, a hit by pitch and two runs scored.
• Joe went 1-for-2 with a double and three runs batted in.
• Gurley went five innings, allowing just two baserunners - a second-inning hit batter and a fourth-inning single. He struck out five.
• Porter threw a scoreless sixth inning, allowing two hits with one strikeout.
WHAT'S NEXT:• The Bucs return to action Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host Freed-Hardeman.
