Chargers Hold Off Bucs 3-2

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-Christian Brothers University senior forward Samuel Wilson (Memphis, Tenn., Christian Brothers HS) and freshman forward Xavi Lao (Barcelona, Spain, Escola Pia Sabadell) combined for a pair of goals, but host Alabama Huntsville claimed a 3-2 win on the strength of three first-half scores Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (8-2-0, 1-2-0 GSC) struck first in the 26th minute, when Wilson sent a cross to Lao, who found the bottom right side of the net for his fourth goal of the year.
• The Chargers (5-3-0, 3-0-0) answered in the 29th minute as Alex Martinez scored from point-blank range off a cross from Leo De Smedt.
• UAH took the lead for good in the 31st minute as Jordan Wright capitalized on a double-assist by Gunnar Oddgeir and Hermann Bjornsson for his ninth goal.
• The Chargers tacked on another score in the 38th minute as Rafn Haraldsson scored off another De Smedt cross to give UAH a 3-1 edge.
• CBU cut the deficit to one again in the 63rd minute, when Lao fed Wilson for his ninth goal.

KEY STATS:
• The Chargers out-shot CBU 23-17, but the Bucs held a 9-5 edge in shots on goal.
• Wilson and Maurice Flaig (Freiburg, Germany/KGBK Bad Krozingen) each took a team-high five shots for CBU.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Bucs return to action Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. as they visit West Alabama. Their next home game is Friday, Oct. 9, when they host Delta State.
