Bucs Blank Bulldogs 1-0

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs wrapped up their 2015 regular season with a 1-0 win over Union Friday night at Signaigo Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• In the 36th minute, reigning GSC Freshman of the Week Xavi Lao (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Sabadell) drew a foul in the box as he was tripped after juking a defender. Brendan Bennett (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School) buried the penalty for his third goal of the season to give the Bucs (12-4-1, 5-3-1 GSC) the only goal they would need.

KEY STATS:
• The Bucs out-shot Union (5-10-1, 2-6-1) 14-8 for the game, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Britton McGuire (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) made saves on both shots he faced as he earned his sixth shutout of the season and the 16th of his career, tying the school career record set by Tom Fuerst from 1987 to 1989.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs will visit Shorter Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference tournament. CBU and Shorter finished tied for the fourth seed, but the Hawks won the No. 4 seed on the second tiebreaker, the GSC Power Rating. The winner of Tuesday's game advances to face top-seeded West Alabama as UWA hosts the semifinals Friday and the championship game Sunday.
