LIVINGSTON, Ala.-The Christian Brothers University Bucs opened an 11-point second-half lead and held on for a 62-57 win over host West Alabama Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:•
Jordan Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) singlehandedly put the Bucs (5-6, 4-2 GSC) on top midway through the first half as he went on a 9-0 run himself over four minutes, capped by a pair of free throws with 4:50 remaining in the first half to give CBU a 19-14 lead.
• UWA (5-6, 2-4) used an 8-2 burst sandwiching the halftime break to take a 22-21 edge on a Simeon Dennis free throw with 18:23 remaining.
• The Bucs answered with a 12-0 run capped by back-to-back threes by
Drew Hildreth (Memphis, Tenn./Bolton HS) and
Ryan McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South HS), giving them a 36-25 lead with 12:14 remaining.
• The Tigers came right back with an 11-0 run, tying the game on a pair of Tyler Chaisson free throws with 8:18 to play.
• CBU regained the lead for good on a Hildreth layup that sparked a 10-2 run capped by three
Jeff Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) free throws to give the Bucs a 48-40 lead with 5:22 remaining.
• UWA steadily chipped into the lead, closing within 57-54 on an Acie Vance triple with 20 seconds remaining, then 59-57 on another Vance three with 14 seconds to play.
• After the Bucs missed a pair of free throws with nine seconds remaining and a 59-57 lead, the Tigers called a timeout, resulting in a technical foul as they had already used all four timeouts.
Cody Garbuzinski (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) sank the technical free throw, then Hildreth made two more to put the game out of reach.
KEY STATS:• Larkin scored 15 points to lead the Bucs.
• Garbuzinski scored 12 with eight rebounds and two assists.
• Hildreth added 12 with six rebounds and two steals.

Adam Dieball (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) scored five points with six assists and four rebounds.
• CBU shot 41.3 percent (19-of-46) for the game, including 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from beyond the arc.
• UWA was 37.5 percent (18-of-48) overall, including 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from three-point range.
• The Bucs out-rebounded UWA 34-30, with each team grabbing nine offensive boards. UWA forced 12 CBU turnovers while committing eight.
WHAT'S NEXT:The Bucs return home Thursday, Dec. 31, when they host Trevecca Nazarene at 4 p.m. to kick off a four-game homestead.
