Owls Top Bucs 7-2 in Saturday's Opener

WWU Wins Second Game 9-0

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs stranded 11 runners on base Saturday afternoon as they lost the first game of a scheduled doubleheader 7-2 to William Woods. Game two was suspended due to darkness in the seventh inning with the Owls leading 9-0.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bucs (2-2) left 11 runners on base as they dropped a 7-2 decision in the opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Owls (2-0) used a hit batter, a stolen base and a single to score a run in the top of the first.
• WWU blew it open in the fourth inning, plating four runs on four singles, a double and a walk.
• The Bucs got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Three straight singles by Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS), Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) and Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) loaded the bases with one out. A wild pitch brought Kelly home to cut the deficit to 5-1, but the Bucs left the bases loaded.
• WWU extended its lead to 7-1 in the sixth inning with two runs on a hit batter, a single and a two-run triple.
• The Bucs plated another run in the bottom of the seventh. Myles Holliman (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a Cameron Coker (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) single. Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) singled to left to bring Holliman home and set the final margin.

KEY STATS:
• Kelly went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) and Blain Curtis (Atoka, Tenn./Tipton Rosemark Academy) drew two walks each.
• Michael Lartigue (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) threw four and a third innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED AND WHAT'S NEXT:
Saturday's second game was suspended due to darkness in the seventh and final inning with the Owls leading 9-0. It will be completed at 1 p.m. before the originally-scheduled series finale is played.

The Bucs grounded into four double plays and stranded 10 runners on base as they lost 9-0 to William Woods in Saturday's second game, which was completed Sunday afternoon after being suspended in the seventh inning Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Owls used a single, a sac bunt and a single to score a run in the top of the first inning.
• WWU tacked on two more in the top of the fifth inning, scoring on an error, a wild pitch, a single, a squeeze bunt and a double.
• The Owls put it out of reach with five runs in the sixth inning on three singles, two doubles, two walks and a hit batter.
• WWU scored another run in the seventh on a two-out error after a single and a hit batter.

KEY STATS:
• Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) went 2-for-3 in the game.
• Myles Holliman (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) was 1-for-2 with two walks
• Ryan Abone (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) allowed one unearned run in an inning and two thirds of relief. All five of his outs were strikeouts.
