Wolves Sweep Bucs in Final Road Trip

CARROLLTON, Ga.–Host West Georgia swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday in the Bucs' final road trip of the season.

GAME 1: 
WHAT HAPPENED:
UWG scored two runs in four different innings to claim an 8-5 win over the Bucs in the opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Wolves (27-13, 19-10 GSC) opened the scoring with a pair of first-inning runs on two singles, two walks and a sacrifice fly.
• UWG doubled its advantage in the second inning with two runs on a single and a homer.
• The Bucs (9-23, 4-18) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning when Myles Holliman (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) led off with a homer to right field.
• The Wolves added two more in the bottom of the fifth on an error, a double and a single.
• CBU shaved the deficit to three runs in the top of the sixth. Blain Curtis (Atoka, Tenn./Tipton Rosemark Academy) drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on a Holliman double. Cameron Coker (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) hit an RBI groundout to score Curtis, and Holliman scored on a two-out Mac Cooley (Bartlett, Tenn./Horn Lake HS) single.
• UWG tacked on two more in the sixth on a hit batter, two singles and three walks.
• The Bucs set the final margin with a pair of two-out runs in the eighth. Coker started the rally with a two-out single and scored on a Cooley double. Cooley scored when Charles Kelly (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) reached on an error.

KEY STATS:
• Holliman went 2-for-5 with two runs, a double, a homer and one RBI.
• Cooley was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBI.
• Coker went 1-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
• Curtis was 1-for-4 with a run and a walk.
Michael Lartigue (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) threw three scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits and three walks.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Wolves scored three or four runs in four different innings as the Wolves pulled away to a 15-4 win to complete the sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs opened the scoring with a three-run first. Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) hit a two-out single, and Coker drew a walk. Cooley followed with a three-run homer to left and the Bucs led 3-0.
• UWG evened the score in the bottom of the inning with three runs on a triple and three singles.
• The Bucs regained the lead with a run in the top of the third. Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) singled and moved to second on a Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) groundout, scoring on a Coker single up the middle.
• UWG took the lead for good with a four-run third inning, converting on two singles, two errors and a triple, giving them a 7-4 lead.
• The Wolves doubled their lead in the bottom of the fourth with three runs on a homer, a triple and two singles.
• UWG extended its lead to 11-4 in the fifth with a run on a double and a single.
• The Wolves set the final margin with a four-run sixth inning on two singles, a double and a homer.

KEY STATS:
• Cooley went 2-for-3 with a run, a homer and three RBI.
• Coker went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and one RBI.
• Smith went 1-for-2 with a run and a hit by pitch.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs wrap up the season next weekend as they host Lee. Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon, with a single game set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
