MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored three runs with none out in the bottom of the ninth as they claimed a 5-4 win over LeMoyne-Owen Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both schools.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Bucs (1-0) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning.
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) reached on an error with two out, and singles by
Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) and
Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) loaded the bases for
Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS), who drew a bases-loaded walk.
• LeMoyne-Owen (0-1) evened the score in the top of the fourth with a run on a triple and a groundout.
• The Magicians took a lead in the top of the sixth when they plated two runs on two two-out walks and a double.
• LOC extended its advantage to 4-1 in the top of the eighth when Robert Sheard hit a leadoff homer to left-center.
• The Bucs shaved a run off the deficit in the bottom of the eighth.
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) led off with a double to left and scored when Halley grounded into a force play.
• CBU scored three runs without making an out in the ninth.
Christian Halterman (Dyersburg, Tenn./Dyer County HS) was hit by a pitch, and singles by
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) and
Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) loaded the bases for
Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS), who was hit by a pitch. Casey Goodwin worked a walk to tie the game, and Pala walked to score the winning run.
KEY STATS:• Halley went 2-for-4 with a sacrifice and one RBI.
• Smith was 2-for-3 with two walks and one RBI.
• Casey Goodwin went 2-for-5 with a double.

Peyton Sanderlin (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two batters.

Patrick Gurley (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) threw a scoreless first inning with the start.

Jack Parker (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) followed with two scoreless innings, striking out three batters.
