Bucs Outlast Chargers 2-1

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs rallied for their first come-from-behind victory of the season Sunday afternoon at Signaigo Field when a diving header by Xavi Lao (Barcelona, Spain, Escola Pia Sabadell) in the 104th minute lifted them to a 2-1 double-overtime win over Alabama Huntsville.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Chargers (3-8-0, 1-3-0 GSC) struck first in the 34th minute, when Tucker Watts sent a cross to Corentin Diverres, who scored on a one-touch shot to put UAH on the board.
• The Bucs (5-5-0, 1-4-0) equalized in the 67th minute, when Michael Pugh (Little Rock, Ark./Darlington School (Ga.)) sent a long cross to Bernado Ferreira (Torres Vedras, Portugal/Secundaria Madeira Torres) on the right side of the 18-yard box, and Ferreira scored his second goal of the season.
• Shortly after Ferreira's equalizer, Diverres was sent off for a second yellow card, giving the Bucs a man advantage for the remainder of the game.
• The game remained level until the 104th minute, when the Bucs converted on a set piece. Brendan Bennett (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School) sent a corner kick to the near post, and Lao's diving header found the left side of the net for the golden goal.

KEY STATS:
• The Bucs out-shot UAH 18-7 for the game, including a 6-3 edge in shots on goal and a 9-3 edge with the man advantage.
Ricardo Lao (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Sabadell) made one save in the first 90 minutes, and Viktor Hoestbo (Stenloese, Denmark/Oesterhoejskolen) made a save on the only shot he faced in nearly 14 minutes as he played the overtime periods after Lao was injured on a foul in the final minutes of regulation.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs hit the road next weekend, visiting Delta State Friday and Mississippi College Sunday. Both games are set to kick off at 3 p.m. Their next home game is Friday, Oct. 21, when they host Harding at 7 p.m.
