Bucs Down Bulldogs 91-60 in GSC Opener

JACKSON, Tenn.-Christian Brothers University freshman guard Brad Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio, Elder HS) made his first seven three-pointers Tuesday night as he scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Bucs to a 91-60 win over Union in the Gulf South Conference opener for both schools.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (3-2, 1-0 GSC) scored the game's first eight points, on a Mitch Mays (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) triple, an Adam Dieball (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) jumper and an Alex Trentman (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart HS) three-point play.
• Union (4-2, 0-1) used a 9-2 burst to pull within 12-11 on a Jarad Scott three-pointer with 11:50 remaining in the first half.
• Miller scored nine of the Bucs' next 11 points, making three three-pointers as they grew their lead to 23-14 with 9:06 remaining.
• After the Bulldogs closed within three points, the Bucs exploded for a 20-2 run that put the game out of reach. By the time Mays capped the run with a layup with 17:17 remaining, the Bucs led 51-30 and Union would never come closer than 18 again, with CBU leading by as many as 40 points in the second half.

KEY STATS:
• Miller scored his 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including 7-of-8 from three-point range in 28 minutes off the bench.
Jeff Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) scored 13 and dished out a career-high 10 assists with two steals and just one turnover, making 6-of-9 field goals including 1-of-2 three-pointers.
Jordan Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) also scored 13 with four assists off the bench.
• Trentman scored 12 points with 10 rebounds.
• Dieball added 10 with five rebounds and three assists in 16 minutes.
• The Bucs shot season-highs of 59.3 percent (35-of-59) overall and 55.2 percent (16-of-29) from three-point range. The 55.2 percent three-point clip was the Bucs' best since shooting 60.9 percent (14-of-23) at Delta State Jan. 31, 2015.
• Union shot 36.5 percent (19-of-52) overall, including 37.5 percent (9-of-24) from beyond the arc.
• CBU and Union each grabbed 30 rebounds, with Union holding a 5-1 edge in offensive boards.
• The Bucs forced 16 turnovers while committing just seven.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs hit the road Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they visit Trevecca Nazarene. Their next home game is Wednesday, Dec. 7, when they open a four-game homestand against No. 7 Bellarmine.
