MEMPHIS-Visiting Union used a three-run fifth inning to take control on their way to a 4-2 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• The Bulldogs (11-3, 5-1 GSC) plated three runs in the top of the fifth on a hit batter, a walk and two singles.
• CBU (4-11, 0-6) answered with two in the bottom of the frame.
Christian Halterman (Dyersburg, Tenn./Dyer County HS) led off with a double to left, and he scored when 3Lucas Castleberry
tripled down the right-field line. (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS)Casey Goodwin# drove Castleberry in with a sacrifice fly to left to bring the Bucs within a run.
• The Bulldogs scored the game's final run with two outs in the ninth, scoring once on three singles.
KEY STATS:• Halterman went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
• Castleberry was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and one RBI.
WHAT'S NEXT:After playing 12 of their first 15 at home, the Bucs hit the road for five games this week. They visit Tennessee-Martin Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. and LeMoyne-Owen Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Gagliano Field. They close the week with a GSC series at Alabama Huntsville. CBU's next home game is Thursday, March 10, as they host Edgewood at 2 p.m.
