Bucs Best Magicians 12-2

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored seven runs in the top of the third inning as they rolled to a 12-2 win over LeMoyne-Owen Wednesday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field, playing as the visiting team since the game was originally scheduled to be played at LeMoyne-Owen.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (5-11) scored a run in the top of the first inning. Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) and Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) walked, and a pair of wild pitches brought Halley around to score with two outs.
• The Magicians used a walk, a wild pitch and two singles to score twice in the bottom of the second inning.
• CBU took full control in the top of the third inning. A walk to Kyle Hindman (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) and hit batters for Goodwin and Christian Halterman (Dyersburg, Tenn./Dyer County HS) loaded the bases with one out. A Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) walk scored Hindman, and Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) followed with a two-run single. A Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) single loaded the bases back up before a wild pitch scored Caleb Goodwin. Hunter Howard (Chelsea, Ala./Chelsea HS) walked to load the bases again. A wild pitch scored Mattson, and a wild throw brought Smith home. Howard scored on a Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) sacrifice fly to complete the seven-run inning.
• The Bucs added a run to their advantage in the seventh inning. Blain Curtis (Atoka, Tenn./Tipton Rosemark Academy) drew a walk, and Jake Tribble (Springville, Ala./Springville HS) reached on an infield single. Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) followed with a two-out RBI double to left to give the Bucs a 9-2 edge.
• The Bucs set the final margin with three in the top of the ninth. Andrew Miller (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) started the inning with a double to the gap in right-center, and pinch-hitter Jake Tribble (Springville, Ala./Springville HS) followed with an infield single to move him to third. Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) followed with a pinch-hit RBI single to left, and Halley singled up the middle to score Tribble. Dodd scored on a sacrifice fly by Casey Goodwin.

KEY STATS:
• Tribble went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
• Halley was 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, a run and two RBI.
• Mattson went 2-for-5 with two RBI.
• Cale Alexander (Bartlett, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy), Ryan Abone (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS), Matthew Mills (Memphis, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School), Peyton McArthur (Senatobia, Miss./Senatobia HS), Matt Turner (Logansport, Ind./Logansport HS) and Josh Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs hit the road for a GSC series this weekend at Alabama Huntsville. They play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday, with both set for 1 p.m. starts. Their next home game is Thursday, March 10, when they host Edgewood at 2 p.m.
