MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs used a six-run sixth inning to rally for an 8-6 win over Blue Mountain Tuesday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (9-32) opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first.
Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) led off with a single and moved to second on a
Lucas Castleberry (Bryant, Ark./Bryant HS) single, but Castleberry was tagged out trying to advance to second. He scored when
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) reached on an error. After Goodwin was out on a
Christian Halterman (Dyersburg, Tenn./Dyer County HS) force play, singles by
Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) and
Andrew Miller (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) loaded the bases for
Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy), who drew a bases-loaded walk.
• The Toppers (19-29) scored two in the top of the second, using two walks and three singles to tie the game.
• BMC took the lead with two runs in the top of the third on a walk and three singles.
• The Toppers extended their lead to 5-2 in the fourth with a run on a double and a single.
• BMC added another run to their lead in the top of the sixth, cashing in on three singles.
• The Bucs exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead.
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) started the rally with a one-out single to left. Three straight walks to
Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy),
Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) and
Hunter Howard (Chelsea, Ala./Chelsea HS) pushed a run across.
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) followed with a bunt single to cut the deficit to 6-4. Halley was hit by a pitch to bring the Bucs within a run, and a two-run single by Castleberry put the Bucs back on top. A throwing error after a
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) single brought home another run to set the final margin.
