CLEVELAND, Miss.-No. 24 Delta State swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday, winning the opener 10-5 before claiming a 26-0 win in the nightcap.
GAME 1:WHAT HAPPENED:The Bucs (7-25, 1-19 GSC) jumped to a 2-0 lead and rallied for a 5-5 tie, but the Statesmen (22-10, 15-5) scored the final five runs to claim a 10-5 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• CBU scored two runs in the top of the second inning.
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) hit a leadoff single and moved to second on a throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt. He scored on a
Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) single. After moving to second on a
Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) single, Goodwin came home on a two-out single by
Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS).
• DSU scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning on three singles, a walk and two doubles.
• The Bucs drew even with a three-run fourth inning. Goodwin led off with a double, and Smith followed with a single. Goodwin scored when Smith was caught stealing second.
Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) legged out a two-out infield single and scored when
Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) reached on a three-base throwing error.
Lucas Castleberry (Bryant, Ark./Bryant HS) singled Halley home to knot the game at five.
• DSU regained the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth with a run on a triple and a sacrifice fly.
• The Statesmen plated another run in the bottom of the fifth on a single and a double.
• DSU set the final margin with three sixth-inning runs on a single, a triple and two doubles.

GAME 2:WHAT HAPPENED:The Statesmen scored 26 runs in the first four innings as they claimed a 26-0 win in the nightcap.
HOW IT HAPPENED:• DSU blitzed the Bucs for 11 runs in the first inning on four walks, a hit batter, two singles, three doubles and a pair of three-run homers.
• The Statesmen tacked on six more in the second on a single, two doubles, three walks and a grand slam.
• DSU plated seven runs in the third inning on two singles, three doubles and a triple as well as four hit batters.
• The Statesmen set the final margin with two runs in the fourth on a double and a home run.
KEY STATS:• Halley went 1-for-2.
• Mattson was 1-for-2.
• Casey Goodwin went 1-for-3.
WHAT'S NEXT:The Bucs and Statesmen meet again Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Their next home game is Saturday at noon, when they host West Georgia for a doubleheader.
