Wolves Sweep Bucs

MEMPHIS-Visiting West Georgia swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday afternoon, winning the first game 14-0 and claiming a 15-3 win in the nightcap.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Wolves (25-10, 14-9 GSC) scored at least three runs in four different innings as they rolled to a 14-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UWG scored four runs in the second inning on three singles, a double, a hit batter and a pair of walks.
• The Wolves plated three more in the third on two walks and three singles.
• UWG added four more in the sixth on a single, two walks, a triple and a sacrifice fly.
• The Wolves set the final margin with a three-run seventh on a hit batter, two doubles and a single.

KEY STATS:
• Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) went 2-for-3 with a double.
• Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) was 2-for-3.
• Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) went 1-for-2.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Wolves exploded for 14 runs in the final three innings to break what had been a 1-1 tie en route to a 15-3 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Wolves scored the game's first run in the top of the first on a single, a double and a groundout.
• CBU (7-28, 1-22) knotted the game in the bottom of the fourth. Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) and Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) walked, and Mattson scored on a Caleb Goodwin (Shreveport, La./Evangel Christian Academy) single through the right side.
• The Wolves regained the lead with an eight-run fifth inning, taking advantage of a triple, five singles, three errors, a hit batter, a walk and a homer.
• The Bucs shaved a run off the deficit in the bottom of the fifth. Hunter Howard (Chelsea, Ala./Chelsea HS) reached on an infield single and moved to second on a Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) walk. After moving to third on a double play, Howard scored on a wild pitch.
• UWG scored four more in the sixth inning on two doubles, a single and a three-run Dalton Rogers homer.
• The Wolves tacked on a pair in the top of the seventh on a double and a two-run homer by Artemis Kadkhodaian.
• CBU set the final margin with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Trey Keppen (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) led hit a one-out pinch-hit double and scored on a Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) pinch-hit single.

KEY STATS:
• Mattson was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.
• Caleb Goodwin went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
• Keppen hit a pinch-hit double and scored in his only appearance.
• Dodd was 1-for-1 with one RBI.
• Jeff Goodwin went 1-for-1 with a walk.
• Halley was 1-for-4.
• Howard went 1-for-2 with a run.

The Bucs and Wolves meet again Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. for the final game of the series.
