HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-Three second-half goals lifted the Christian Brothers University Bucs into sole possession of first place in the Gulf South Conference standings with three games to play as the Bucs won 3-1 at Alabama Huntsville.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Chargers (5-5-2, 4-1-2 GSC) struck first in the 34th minute as Leon Brudy scored off a cross from Corentin Diverres.
• The Bucs (7-4-1, 6-1-1) equalized in the 47th minute as
Michael Longo (Mandeville, La./St. Paul's HS) scored his first goal of the season on the rebound after
Brendan Bennett (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School) took the first shot.
• CBU took the lead for good in the 60th minute as
Djordje Djordjovic (Basin, Serbia/Palanacka Gimnazija) converted a feed from
Xavi Lao (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Sabadell) for his fifth goal of the year.
• Just 15 seconds after substituting into the game,
Devin Malone (Memphis, Tenn./Bartlett HS) set the final margin as he scored an unassisted goal in the 65th minute to give the Bucs a 3-1 edge.
KEY STATS:
• The Bucs out-shot UAH 13-11, including a 7-6 edge in shots on goal.

Viktor Hoestbo (Stenloese, Denmark/Oesterhoejskolen) made five saves for the Bucs.
THE GSC STANDINGS:
With the win, the Bucs moved past West Alabama into sole possession of first place in the GSC with 19 points, one more than UWA's 18. Mississippi College is in third place with 16, followed by Alabama Huntsville (14), Lee (13) and Montevallo (11). Union (9) is in seventh, followed by West Florida (7) and Shorter (6). The top six teams advance to the GSC Tournament, with the quarterfinals set for Oct. 31, the semifinals Nov. 3 and the championship Nov. 5.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs play their final GSC road game Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. as they visit West Alabama with first place on the line. The Bucs wrap up the GSC slate at home next weekend, hosting West Florida Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. and Spring Hill Sunday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m.
