Strong Second Half Keeps No. 10/8 Bucs Unbeaten, 79-76

CLINTON, Miss.-Facing their largest second-half deficit of the season, the No. 10/8 Christian Brothers University Bucs used a 21-3 run to regain the lead en route to a 79-76 win at Mississippi College Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Choctaws (3-3, 1-1 GSC) opened the game on an 8-3 run capped by a Donovan Ham layup with 16:34 remaining in the half.
• After the Bucs (7-0, 2-0) tied the game at 19 on a Jeff Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) layup with 10:14 to play in the half, MC used a 17-2 run to open a 37-21 lead on a pair of Antonio Johnson free throws with 2:47 remaining in the half, the largest deficit the Bucs have faced this season.
• CBU closed the half on a 10-2 run to pull within 39-31 on a Larkin triple with 24 seconds remaining.
• Early in the second half, the Choctaws used a 10-2 run of their own to take a 57-44 lead on a Johnson three-pointer with 12:40 to play.
• The Bucs' rally started with a Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) jumper on the next possession, followed by three free throws by Joe Laravie (Kettering, Ohio/Alter HS). By the time #Brad Miller capped the 21-3 run, the Bucs led 65-60 with 6:52 remaining.
• The teams would trade leads three more times, with the Bucs regaining a 74-73 edge when Larkin sank two free throws with 1:05 remaining.
• Johnson tied the game at 74 with a free throw nine seconds later, and Larkin made one free throw himself with 37 seconds remaining to put the Bucs ahead for good. After Laravie rebounded a missed free throw, Larkin found Rudy behind the defense for a layup that put the Bucs up 77-74 with 12 seconds remaining.
• The Bucs fouled on purpose with six seconds left. After Johnson sank two free throws to cut the deficit to 77-76, Larkin sank two more with three seconds remaining to set the final margin as the Choctaws' three-pointer at the buzzer missed.
