MEMPHIS-For the second time this week, the Christian Brothers University Bucs used an eighth-inning rally to force extra innings and a 10th-inning rally to keep the game going. Unlike Tuesday's loss to Lindenwood, however, the Bucs scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk to beat Columbia 7-6 in 12 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Cougars (3-4) opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first on a double, a wild pitch and an RBI groundout.
• CBU (4-5) tied the game in the bottom of the first when
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) launched a two-out homer to right-center.
•
Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) put the Bucs on top when he blasted a leadoff homer to right-center in the bottom of the second inning.
• Columbia regained the lead with two runs in the sixth on an error, a single, a stolen base and a pair of RBI groundouts.
• The Cougars extended their lead to three runs in the seventh on a walk and two singles.
• CBU tied the game back up with a three-run eighth inning.
Trey Keppen (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) worked a leadoff walk. After
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) followed with a single,
Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs.
Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) drew a bases-loaded walk, and
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) legged out an infield single. Dodd walked to push the tying run across.
• Columbia took the lead in the top of the 10th with a run on two singles and an error.
• The Bucs tied the game back up in the bottom of the 10th. Goodwin reached on a leadoff single. After stealing second, he scored on a Dodd double to left-center. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, pinch-runner
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) was tagged out trying to score on a wild pitch, sending the game to the 11th.
• Jeff Goodwin sparked the rally in the bottom of the 12th as he worked a one-out walk. After he stole second,
Taylor King (Water Valley, Miss./Water Valley HS) was intentionally walked, and
Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) drew a walk to load the bases. After falling behind 1-2, Keppen worked a walk to score Goodwin for the winning run.

• Dodd went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer, a walk, a run and three RBI.
• Casey Goodwin was 2-for-6 with a homer, a stolen base, two runs and one RBI.
• Keppen went 1-for-1 with three walks, a run and one RBI.

Patrick Gurley (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) started and gave up five runs, three earned, as he scattered six hits and three walks against five strikeouts over six and two-thirds innings.

Ryan Abone (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) went five and a third innings of relief, allowing only one unearned run on two hits. He struck out three with no walks to earn his first win of the season.
