CLEVELAND, Miss.-The Christian Brothers University Bucs used a late 9-0 run to take a one-point lead in the last minute, but host Delta State scored the last three points to take a 69-67 win Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Statesmen (20-6, 15-5 GSC) opened the game with back-to-back John Cornish triples to take a 6-0 lead.
• The Bucs (15-11, 12-8) used an 8-2 burst to tie the game at 10 on a
Joe Laravie (Kettering, Ohio/Alter HS) three with 13:30 remaining in the first half.
• DSU answered with a 12-3 burst to take a 22-13 lead on a James Kilpatrick jumper with 5:23 remaining in the half.
• The DSU lead stayed between three and 10 points for nearly the remainder of the game, as they pushed their lead to 66-58 on a Devin Schmidt layup with 3:09 remaining.
• The Bucs answered with a 9-0 run, taking a 67-66 lead on a
Jeff Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle HS) layup with 22 seconds remaining.
• Schmidt answered with a layup to put DSU back ahead 68-67 with 17 seconds remaining. After the Bucs missed a shot, DSU made one of two free throws and CBU's last-second three-pointer missed.
KEY STATS:

Brad Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder HS) scored 16 points with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
•
Adam Dieball (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) had 14 points with six rebounds and six assists.
• Laravie added 14.
• Larkin scored nine with three assists.
• The Bucs shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field, including 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from three-point range. Delta State finished 47.2 percent (25-of-53) overall, including 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from beyond the arc.
• DSU out-rebounded the Bucs 39-28, including a 7-5 edge in offensive boards. The Bucs forced 15 DSU turnovers while committing 10.
GSC TOURNAMENT PICTURE:
No. 25 Valdosta State heads into the season's final week in sole possession of first place at 17-3, followed by No. 19 Alabama Huntsville (16-4) and Delta State (15-5). CBU and West Florida are tied for fourth at 12-8, followed by Shorter in sixth at 11-9. Union is seventh at 9-11, followed by North Alabama at 8-12. Lee is ninth at 7-13.

The Bucs wrap up the regular season with two home games next week. They host No. 19 Alabama Huntsville Thursday night at 7 p.m. before closing the regular season against North Alabama Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
