JACKSON, Tenn.-Host Union scored seven runs in the eighth inning to blow open what had been a close game en route to a 9-1 win over the Christian brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bulldogs (14-1, 6-0 GSC) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, scoring a run on an RBI groundout after two hit batters and a walk loaded the bases.
• CBU (5-10, 1-5) tied the game up in the fourth.
Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) led off with a single to center, and
Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) was hit by a pitch. A one-out error loaded the bases, and
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) scored Traylor when he grounded into a force play.
• Union again scored without a hit in the fourth inning, cashing in on a pair of errors to score the eventual winning run.
• UU blew it open in the eighth, scoring seven runs on three walks, a single, two doubles and two homers to extend their lead to 9-1.
KEY STATS:
• Traylor went 2-for-4 with a run.
• Halley was 1-for-3.
• Mattson went 1-for-4.

Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) took the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, on a hit and three walks in five innings.
