Lions Outlast Bucs 8-6 in 12

MILLINGTON-The Christian Brothers University Bucs rallied to tie the game in the seventh, eighth and 10th innings before dropping an 8-6 decision to Missouri Southern State in 12 innings Tuesday afternoon at USA Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (2-3) scored in the first inning for the fifth straight game, this time without the benefit of a hit. Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) drew a two-out walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. He scored from second on a passed ball to put CBU on the board.
• Missouri Southern (1-0) tied the game in the top of the third when Cory Canterbury hit a two-out homer to left.
• CBU regained the lead in the bottom of the third. Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) reached base when the Lions failed in an attempt to force Pala out at second. A groundout moved them to second and third for Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS), who hit a two-run single to give the Bucs a 3-1 edge.
• MSSU plated three runs in the sixth on a double, a single, an error and three walks.
• The Bucs tied the game back up at four in the bottom of the seventh. Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) worked a leadoff walk. After moving to second on a wild pitch, he moved to third on a groundout and scored on a Pala sacrifice fly.
• The Lions regained the lead again in the top of the eighth with a run on two singles and a hit batter.
• CBU tied the game back up in the bottom of the eighth. Halley hit a leadoff double and scored when Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) blasted a triple off the right-field wall, narrowly missing a home run.
• Missouri Southern regained the lead in the top of the 10th on a walk, an error and a wild pitch.
• The Bucs knotted the game again in the bottom of the inning. Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) reached on an error and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) singled to left-center to score him and tie the game.
• The Lions took the lead for good in the top of the 12th with a two-out rally. Canterbury was hit by a 2-2 pitch with two away in the inning, and Tyler Sutherland hit the next pitch over the wall in right-center to give MSSU an 8-6 lead.
