MILLINGTON-Visiting Missouri Southern State claimed a 9-4 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Wednesday afternoon at USA Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lions (2-0) opened the scoring in the top of the second with two runs on an error, a double, a single and a sacrifice fly.
• MSSU added two runs to its lead in the third on a walk, a double and an error.
• The Bucs (2-4) broke through for a run in the bottom of the third.
Trey Keppen (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) hit a leadoff single to left. After moving around to third on a pair of groundouts, he scored on a passed ball.
• Missouri Southern extended its lead to 6-1 in the top of the fourth on a walk and a two-run Tyler Sutherland homer.
• CBU cut into the deficit in the bottom of the sixth with two runs.
Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) worked a one-out walk and scored on a
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) triple to center.
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) drove Mattson in with a sacrifice fly.
• The Lions added two runs to their lead on a double and three singles.
• The Bucs scored another run in the bottom of the eighth.
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) drew a leadoff walk, moved to third on a passed ball and a wild pitch, and scored on a Traylor groundout.
• MSSU set the final margin with a run in the top of the ninth on a double, a wild pitch and a groundout.

• Mattson went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and one RBI.
