MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, scoring the winning run two innings later to win the second game 4-3 after visiting Mississippi College won the opener 10-6 Saturday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Choctaws (5-18, 3-10 GSC) hit four home runs as they built a 9-2 lead in the eighth inning and withstood a four-run CBU (9-17, 4-10) comeback to win 10-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second.
Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) walked, and singles by
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) and
Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) loaded the bases with none out. A double play brought Angley-Holman in, and a strikeout stranded Pala on third.
• MC took the lead in the fourth inning with two runs on a hit batter, a walk and two singles.

Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) tied the game at two when he hit the first pitch of the fourth inning out to right-center for his fourth home run of the season.
• The Choctaws took the lead for good in the sixth with a run on a double, two singles and two walks.
• MC added to its lead in the seventh inning when Chance Whitten followed a double and a walk with a three-run homer.
• The Choctaws used a pair of solo homers by Kyle Smith and Casey Echols to extend their lead to 9-2 in the eighth.
• CBU fought back into the game in the bottom of the inning.
Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) started it with a hit by pitch, and walks to
Taylor King (Water Valley, Miss./Water Valley HS) and
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) laoded the bases with none out.
Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) followed with an RBI single, and Goodwin hit a two-run double down the left-field line. Angley-Holman scored Kilgore with a groundout to bring CBU within 9-6.
• A one-out Hunter Austin homer in the top of the ninth set the final margin.
KEY STATS:
• Goodwin went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer, a run and three RBI.
• Kilgore was 2-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Choctaws took a 3-0 lead into the final scheduled inning, but the Bucs scored three in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, then they scored the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• MC opened the scoring when Blaine Crim and Whitten hit back-to-back homers to start the fourth inning.
• The Choctaws extended their lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning on a single, a groundout and another single.
• CBU scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Kilgore led off the inning with a pinch-hit double to right, and he scored when Halley reached on a two-base error.
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) legged out a bunt single, and a passed ball scored Halley and brought Goodwin to second. Smith reached on a dropped third strike, which moved Goodwin to third, and
Trey Keppen (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, still with none out. King hit a blooper over first base that turned into a force play as Goodwin was out at home, but Mattson drove pinch-runner
Kyle Hindman (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) in when he grounded into a force play that erased King at second.
• The score remained 3-3 until the bottom of the ninth. Jeff Goodwin worked a leadoff walk and stole second with two out. King followed with a single through the left side, scoring Goodwin for the game-winning run.

• Kilgore was 1-for-1 with a double and a run.
• Halley went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.
• Jeff Goodwin was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a steal.
• King went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Peyton Sanderlin (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) allowed two runs as he scattered seven hits over four and a third innings.

Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) earned the win, pitching four and two-thirds innings of relief as he allowed one run on four hits against three strikeouts.
