MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs matched their season-high with 12 runs Tuesday afternoon, but visiting Southern Arkansas claimed a 15-12 victory
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Muleriders (20-5) opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-out hit batter followed by a two-run Jacob Richardson homer.
• CBU (9-19) cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning when
Taylor King (Water Valley, Miss./Water Valley HS) blasted a two-out homer to left-center, his fifth of the season.
• The Bucs took the lead with three runs in the second.
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) and
Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and a wild pitch moved them to second and third.
Jake Tribble (Springville, Ala./Springville HS) scored Goodwin with a sacrifice fly, and an error allowed Cramer to score.
Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) reached base on a dropped third strike and stole second, scoring on a
Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) single to give the Bucs a 4-2 edge.
• SAU knotted the game with two runs in the fourth on a double, a hit batter and two singles.
• The Muleriders took the lead for good in the top of the fifth as Jake Tisevich followed three straight singles with a grand slam.
• CBU shaved two runs off the deficit in the sixth. King led off with an infield single, and a
Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) hit batter and a Goodwin walk loaded the bases for Cramer, who hit into a force play with his blooper to shallow center, scoring King as Kilgore was forced out at third. A
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) walk loaded the bases back up, and Angley-Holman drove Goodwin in with a bases-loaded walk.
• SAU blew it open again with a five-run seventh on five singles, a walk and a hit batter.
• The Bucs scored one in the bottom of the inning. King doubled to center and moved to third on a wild pitch, scoring when
Hunter Howard (Chelsea, Ala./Chelsea HS) reached on an error.
• The Muleriders scored two more runs in the ninth on a hit batter, a single, a double and two walks.
• CBU again rallied in the ninth, bringing the tying run to bat before the game ended. Traylor started the inning with a double, and he scored on a
Blain Curtis (Atoka, Tenn./Tipton Rosemark Academy) single. Walks to King and Howard loaded the bases, and Goodwin drove Curtis in when he reached on catcher's interference. King scored when Cramer grounded into a force play, and
Trevor Goetsch (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) drew a walk to load the bases back up with one out. Tribble grounded into a force play, erasing Goodwin at the plate, but a wild throw as SAU tried to convert the double play brought Cramer home. Angley-Holman singled to left-center to bring the Bucs within 15-12, but a flyout ended the game.
