MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs turned 19 hits into 19 runs as they swept a Gulf South Conference doubleheader from Alabama Huntsville Saturday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field.
GAME 1:
The Bucs (7-12, 3-5 GSC) scored at least once in six different innings, including a five-run fourth, as they rallied for a 10-6 win in the opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Chargers (7-10, 3-5) opened the scoring in the top of the first with a walk and a two-run homer by AJ Walden.
• CBU halved the deficit in the bottom of the inning.
Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) reached on a two-out single, and a
Taylor King (Water Valley, Miss./Water Valley HS) single and a
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) walk loaded the bases, then a bases-loaded balk brought Traylor home.
• The Bucs tied it in the second.
Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) led off with a single. After moving to second on a passed ball and third on a wild pitch, he scored on a
Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) single to tie the game.
• UAH regained a 4-2 lead in the top of the third on a single and another two-run homer by Walden.
• CBU again scored a run in the third. Traylor led off with a walk and moved to second on a passed ball. After moving to third on a groundout, he scored on a
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) single.
• The Chargers scored two more runs in the fourth on an error, a walk and two singles.
• The Bucs exploded for five runs in the fourth to take their first lead of the day.
Parker Jordan (Southaven, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) led off with a single and moved around to third on a pair of wild pitches, scoring on a
Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) groundout. After Smith reached on an error, Traylor worked a two-out walk. A wild pitch moved them around to second and third for King, who legged out an RBI infield single. A double-steal brought Traylor home, and King stole third and scored on a wild throw to put the Bucs ahead. Goodwin singled and stole second, scoring on a Pala single to give CBU an 8-6 lead they would not relinquish.
• CBU added an insurance run in the sixth.
Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) doubled, and walks to King and Goodwin loaded the bases for Pala, who drove Kilgore in with a sacrifice fly.
• The Bucs set the final margin in the seventh.
Trey Keppen (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch. A throwing error on a pickoff attempt moved him to third, and Smith singled him home.
KEY STATS:
• Pala went 3-for-4 with a stolen base, a sacrifice fly and three RBI.
• King was 2-for-4 with two steals, a walk, a run and one RBI.
• Smith went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI.
• Traylor was 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs.
• Goodwin went 1-for-3 with two walks and a run.
• Jordan went 1-for-2 with a run.

Peyton Sanderlin (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) (3-1) went the distance for the Bucs, allowing six runs, four earned, on six hits and two walks as he struck out eight.
GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bucs rallied from a 6-2 fifth-inning deficit to win 9-6 as they scored four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning. Smith was hit by a pitch, and Kilgore blasted his third homer of the week to left-center to give CBU a 2-0 lead.
• The Chargers tied the game in the top of the fourth with two runs on four straight singles.
• UAH took the lead with a four-run fifth, taking advantage of six singles.
• CBU scored four in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Halley, Smith and Kilgore loaded the bases as they were each hit by a pitch. King followed with a bases-clearing double down the left field line, and he scored when
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) reached on a two-out error.
• The Bucs won the game with a three-run sixth. Cramer led off with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a Halley sacrifice.
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) drove him in with an infield squeeze bunt, and Casey Goodwin followed with a two-out two-run homer to right-center to give the Bucs a 9-6 lead.
Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) threw a scoreless ninth to preserve the victory.

• Mattson was 2-for-3 with a double.
• Kilgore went 1-for-3 with a homer, two runs and two RBI.
• King was 1-for-3 with a double, a run and three RBI.
• Casey Goodwin went 1-for-4 with a homer, a run and two RBI.
• Cramer was 1-for-3 with a run.
• Jeff Goodwin went 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI.
• Smith was 0-for-1 but was hit by three pitches and scored two runs.
• Erwin (2-3) earned the win as the threw three scoreless innings of relief, scattering four hits against two strikeouts.
