MEMPHIS-Visiting Alabama Huntsville topped the Christian Brothers University Bucs 6-4 Sunday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field to keep the Bucs from sweeping the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Chargers (8-10, 4-5 GSC) opened the scoring with a fourth-inning run on a double and two singles.
• CBU (7-13, 3-6) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) led off with a walk and moved to third on a
Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) double, scoring on a
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) groundout.
• UAH regained the lead for good in the fifth inning when they scored three runs on two hit batters, a walk and two singles.
• The Bucs shaved a run off the deficit in the fifth inning.
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) walked but was erased when
Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) grounded into a force play. After moving to second on a wild pitch, Smith scored on a
Taylor King (Water Valley, Miss./Water Valley HS) single to left.
• The Chargers added two runs to their lead in the sixth inning on two singles and a triple.
• CBU came back within two runs with two in the bottom of the sixth. Mattson singled to right-center and moved to third on a Kilgore double. Casey Goodwin drove Mattson in with an RBI groundout, and a
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) infield single plated Pala.
KEY STATS:
• Kilgore went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run.
• Smith was 2-for-5 with a double and a run.
• Casey Goodwin went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
• King was 1-for-3 with two hit by pitches and one RBI.
• Pala went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Matthew Mills (Memphis, Tenn./First Assembly Christian School) started and went three and a third innings, allowing one run on four hits.

Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) threw three and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief, pitching around a hit and a walk.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs hit the road next weekend for a GSC series at West Alabama. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 2 p.m., with a single game set for 1 p.m. Sunday. CBU's next home game is Wednesday, March 15, when they host Bethel at 1 p.m. to open a five-game homestand.
