MEMPHIS-Christian Brothers University senior
Taylor King (Water Valley, Miss., Water Valley HS) hit a two-out two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Bucs to a 5-4 win over Lee Saturday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field after Lee won the first game 6-3.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bucs (13-29, 7-20 GSC) rallied for a 3-2 lead in the seventh, but Lee (24-19, 11-16) scored twice in the eighth and ninth innings to rally for a 6-3 win in the opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Flames opened the scoring in the top of the third with two runs on two walks, a hit batter and two singles.
• CBU knotted the game with two in the bottom of the sixth.
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) was hit by a pitch and scored on a two-out King double.
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) doubled King home, but he was tagged out at the plate trying to score on a
Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) single, ending the inning.
• The Bucs took the lead in the bottom of the seventh when
Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) launched a leadoff homer to left. A
Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) double, a
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) fielder's choice sacrifice bunt and a
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) bunt single loaded the bases with no out, but the Bucs failed to score as a force play, a strikeout and a groundout ended the inning with the bases loaded.
• Lee took advantage in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs on a single, a triple and an error to regain a 4-3 lead.
• The Flames set the final margin with two runs in the ninth on a single, a walk, a double-steal and another single.
KEY STATS:
• Dodd went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.
• Jeff Goodwin was 2-for-5.
• King went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and one RBI.
• Casey Goodwin was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and one RBI.
• Cramer went 1-for-4 with a homer, a run and one RBI.
• Angley-Holman was 1-for-4.

Ryan Abone (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) threw three and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief, with two strikeouts against a hit and two walks.
GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bucs gave up three unearned runs in a four-run fifth inning after taking a 1-0 lead in the second, but they scored two in the sixth and two in the seventh to rally for a 5-4 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU struck for a run in the bottom of the second. Cramer led off with a single and stole second, moving to third when the throw sailed into center.
Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) followed with a single to right to score Cramer.
• Lee scored four runs in the top of the fifth. They loaded the bases on two singles and an error, scoring the tying run on a sacrifice fly and then taking the lead on a two-out three-run Nathan Wierzgac homer to left.
• The Bucs pulled within a run with two runs in the sixth. Back-to-back walks by
Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) and Mattson started the inning. King sacrificed them to second and third for Cramer, who scored Halley with a sacrifice fly. Dodd followed with an RBI double to bring Mattson in and cut the deficit to 4-3.
• CBU won the game in thrilling fashion in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch-hitter
Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and pinch-runner Angley-Holman moved to second on a
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) sacrifice. Walks to Jeff Goodwin and Halley loaded the bases, and King hit the game-ending single up the middle as the ball took a high hop off the glove of the diving shortstop.
KEY STATS:
• Mattson went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and a run.
• King was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice and two RBI. Also the starting pitcher, he threw four innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk against four strikeouts.
• Cramer went 1-for-2 with a steal, a sacrifice fly, a run and one RBI.
• Dodd was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI.
• Smith went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Patrick Gurley (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) earned the win, allowing one run on three hits in three innings of relief, striking out three.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs step out of GSC play for the final time this season Wednesday night at 6 p.m. as they visit UT-Martin. They return home Saturday, April 29, when they host Shorter for a noon doubleheader, with a single game set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
