Skyhawks Outlast Bucs 9-8 in Final Nonconference Game

MARTIN, Tenn.-The Christian Brothers University Bucs rallied from a 5-0 deficit to take an 8-5 lead in the sixth inning, but host UT-Martin scored the last four runs to claim a 9-8 win in CBU's final non-conference game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Skyhawks (14-20) struck for four runs in the bottom of the first on three singles, a walk and a triple.
• UTM added a run to its lead in the third in two singles and a sacrifice fly.
• The Bucs (13-30) scored five in the fifth to tie the game. Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) singled and moved to second on a wild pitch, scoring when Kyle Hindman (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) reached on an error. After Hindman stole second and moved to third on a wild throw, Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) walked and Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) hit an RBI single. Taylor King (Water Valley, Miss./Water Valley HS) walked to load the bases, and a wild pitch plated Goodwin. Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) singled to score Angley-Holman, and a throwing error on the play brought King in to tie the game.
• CBU took the lead with a three-run sixth inning. Hindman led off with a double to left-center. After moving to third on a Goodwin sacrifice bunt, he scored on a King single. Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) followed King's single with a two-run homer to left-center to give CBU an 8-5 edge.
• The Skyhawks shaved a run off CBU's lead in the bottom of the inning with a run on a double and a single.
• UTM tied the game in the seventh on a walk and a two-run Tanner Wessling homer.
• The game remained tied at 8 until two out in the bottom of the ninth. The Skyhawks started the inning with an error and a walk. After a strikeout and a groundout put runners on second and third with two out, the Bucs intentionally walked the bases loaded, but UTM scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
