No. 13 Statesmen Blank Bucs 8-0

MEMPHIS-No. 13 Delta State scored three runs in two different innings as they claimed an 8-0 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Statesmen (25-8, 16-5 GSC) gave starting pitcher Seth Birdsong the only run he would need in the top of the third inning on a single, a walk, a groundout and a wild pitch.
• DSU added three in the fourth on a double, five walks and a single.
• The Statesmen added another run in the eighth on a leadoff homer by Jason Popovich.
• DSU set the final margin with three in the ninth on two singles, a double and a triple.

KEY STATS:
• Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) went 2-for-3 for the Bucs (9-26, 4-17).
• Trey Keppen (Germantown, Tenn./Germantown HS) was 1-for-1.
• Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) went 1-for-3 with a double and a hit by pitch.
• Ryan Abone (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) threw a scoreless inning of relief, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
