CARROLLTON, Ga.-The Christian Brothers University Bucs rallied to force extra innings in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, winning 4-3 in eight innings after they dropped a 7-1 decision to host West Georgia in the first game.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Wolves (13-21, 6-17 GSC) scored four runs in the first inning as they won 7-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UWG scored four in the first on four singles, a hit batter and a walk.
• The Wolves added a run in the fifth on a walk and two singles.
• CBU (10-27, 5-18) scored a run in the top of the sixth.
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) reached on an error to start the inning, and he moved to second when
Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) worked a walk. A one-out
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) single drove Jeff Goodwin in.
• UWG set the final margin with two in the seventh on a double and two singles.
KEY STATS:
• Casey Goodwin went 4-for-4 with one RBI.

Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) went 2-for-4 with a double.

Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) was 1-for-4.

Patrick Gurley (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) threw an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief with two strikeouts against a hit and a walk.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bucs rallied from a 3-2 deficit with two out in the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings, and a two-out rally in the eighth lifted them to a 4-3 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU scored a run in the top of the first. Jeff Goodwin led off with a double to right-center. An Angley-Holman sacrifice moved him to third, and he scored on a
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) groundout.
• The Wolves tied the game in the bottom of the first with a run on a hit batter, a stolen base, an error and a sacrifice fly.
• The Bucs regained the lead in the top of the third. Jeff Goodwin singled and moved to third on an Angley-Holman single, scoring on a Mattson sacrifice fly.
• UWG took the lead in the fourth inning with two runs on a walk, a triple and a double.
• CBU wouldn't tie the game until they were down to their last strike.
Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) led off the seventh with a single, and he moved to second on a
Kyle Hindman (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) sacrifice. A Jeff Goodwin flyout moved him to third, and Angley-Holman hit a 2-2 pitch through the right side for the game-tying RBI. Mattson followed with a double to center, but Angley-Holman was tagged out trying to score the go-ahead run.
• The Bucs survived a scare in the bottom of the seventh with their own out at the plate. UWG loaded the bases on a double, an intentional walk and an infield single. After a one-out fly ball to shallow right,
Taylor King (Water Valley, Miss./Water Valley HS) threw out the lead runner at the plate on a force-out to keep the game tied, and
Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) drew a popout to get out of the inning.
• CBU took the lead for good with a two-out rally in the top of the eighth. King reached on a dropped third strike, reaching on a wild pitch that would have ended the inning. A single by Cramer moved him to second, and
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) singled him in for the winning run.
• Erwin retired the side in the eighth on just six pitches to preserve the victory.
