CARROLLTON, Ga.-The Christian Brothers University Bucs topped host West Georgia 5-1 Sunday afternoon as they claimed their second GSC series win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (11-27, 6-18 GSC) struck for two in the second inning to take an early lead.
Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) started the rally with a two-out single through the left side, and he moved to third on a
Scott Pala (Hernando, Miss./Hernando HS) single to right-center. A wild pickoff throw brought Cramer in and sent Pala to third, and he scored when
Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) singled to center.
• UWG (13-22, 6-18) plated a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single and a double.
• CBU added two more runs in the eighth.
Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) led off with a double down the left-field line, and pinch-runner
Kyle Hindman (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) scored on a
Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) double down the right field line. Kilgore came around to score on a two-out Pala single.
• The Bucs set the final margin with another run in the ninth.
Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) and Hindman reached on back-to-back one-out singles, and Mattson scored when Kilgore reached on an error.
KEY STATS:
• Traylor went 2-for-2 with a steal and one RBI.
• Pala was 2-for-4 with a steal, a run and one RBI.
• Kilgore went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and one RBI.
• Mattson was 2-for-4 with a run.
• Hindman went 1-for-1 with a run.

Taylor King (Water Valley, Miss./Water Valley HS) earned the win, allowing one run in five and two-thirds innings. He struck out four against four hits and three walks.

Patrick Gurley (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) threw two-thirds of an inning, pitching around a walk.

Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) earned his second save with two and two-thirds scoreless innings. He struck out three and allowed one hit.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs return to action Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. as they visit Rhodes for a non-conference game. They return home Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host Lee, with a doubleheader set for noon Saturday.
