Bucs Down Bulldogs 2-0 in GSC Opener

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored a pair of second-half goals as they claimed a 2-0 win over Union Sunday afternoon in their first GSC game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (2-3-0, 1-0-0 GSC) opened the scoring in the 66th minute as Brendan Bennett (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School) scored his team-best third goal of the season on a penalty kick. Michael Longo (Mandeville, La./St. Paul's HS) drew the foul in the box, on the Union goalkeeper, as he was fouled after playing the ball ahead over the goalkeeper's sliding challenge after receiving a throughball from Bernado Ferreira (Torres Vedras, Portugal/Secundaria Madeira Torres).
• CBU capitalized on the counterattack for their second goal after clearing a Union (0-4-0, 0-1-0) corner kick. Djordje Djordjevic dribbled the ball into space in the midfield, and he sent a throughball to Xavi Lao (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Sabadell), who dribbled to the edge of the 18-yard box and shot around the goalkeeper for his second goal of the season.

KEY STATS:
• CBU out-shot the Bulldogs 17-12, including a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.
Viktor Hoestbo (Stenloese, Denmark/Oesterhoejskolen) made eight saves for the Bucs as he earned his second career shutout.
