MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs remained unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play as they defeated visiting Shorter 3-0 Sunday at Signaigo Field in a game that saw a pair of lightning delays.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Lightning inside an eight-mile perimeter of Signaigo Field forced a delay of approximately an hour before the game kicked off. As the game began at 4:34 p.m., another lightning strike inside the perimeter forced a 30-minute delay just 13 seconds into the game.
• Once the game resumed, neither side could score until the 42nd minute, when
Devin Malone (Memphis, Tenn./Bartlett HS) put the Bucs (4-3-0, 3-0-0 GSC) on the board when he headed in a
Xavi Lao (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Sabadell) cross. Lao sent the ball across the goal, and when the Shorter keeper fumbled his attempt to catch the ball, Malone headed it in from the back post for his first career goal.
• Djordje Djordjevic scored twice in the second half to put the game out of reach. His first goal came in the 48th minute on a breakaway after a throughball from
Michael Longo (Mandeville, La./St. Paul's HS). Djordjevic's first shot was saved, but he tapped the rebound in for his second goal of the season.
• Djordjevic scored on a set piece in the 70th minute to give the Bucs a 3-0 edge.
Jake Barrett (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) sent a corner kick to the back post for Djordjevic, who scored his second goal of the game.
• Shorter (2-6-0, 2-2-0) scored a goal in the 72nd minute as Jordan Etsio scored off a cross from Hassane Traore to set the final margin at 3-1.
KEY STATS:
• The Bucs out-shot Shorter 16-6 for the game, including a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
•
Viktor Hoestbo (Stenloese, Denmark/Oesterhoejskolen) made three saves for the Bucs.
