Bucs Edge Out West Florida In GSC Opener

Pensacola, Florida- The Christian Brothers University Bucs out-scored host West Florida 18-7 over the final four minutes as they pulled away to a 71-60 GSC opener win over West Florida Thursday night.


 HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) scored the first five points for the Bucs (5-1, 1-0 GSC), scoring a three pointer assisted by Brad Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder HS) and a layup coming off of a pass from Jacob Lyons (Hernando, Miss./Christian Brothers HS). It was a back-and-forth game throughout the first half, with the Bucs leading as many as 6 points. 
  • An 8-4 run coming late in the first half led the Bucs to a 25-24 lead at halftime, with Rudy leading the way with 10 points. 
  • With four minutes remaining in the game the Bucs and Argonauts (3-3, 0-1) were knotted up at 53. The Bucs went on a 18-7 to close out the game, with eight coming from Nick Deifel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS).
 
KEY STATS:
  • Adam Dieball (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) led the scoring for the Bucs with 20 points. He also tallied nine rebounds and three assists.
  • Deifel scored 17 with five rebounds and four assists, shooting 8-8 from the free throw line. 
  • Rudy finished the game with 16 points and nine rebounds. 
  • Joe Laravie (Kettering, Ohio/Alter HS) tacked on 11 points and 3 assists.
  • The Bucs shot 47.2 percent (25-53), including 31.8 percent (7-22) from downtown, and 93.3 percent (14-15) from the line. West Florida finished shooting 36.9 percent (24-65) from the field, 30 percent (9-30), and 60 percent (3-5) from the line.
  • The Argonauts out-rebounded the Bucs 37-35, including a 12-4 edge in offensive rebounds.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs continue their road play as they take on GSC foe Valdosta State Saturday, November 1st at 7:30PM. The Bucs return back to Canale Arena Saturday, December 15th at 3PM as they are up against Auburn-Montgomery.
