LIBERTY, Missouri-The Christian Brothers University Bucs split two games with host William Jewell Saturday, winning the opener 6-5 but dropping an 18-5 decision in the second game.
GAME 1: CBU 6, William Jewell 5
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bucs (2-6) used a four-run seventh to take a 6-2 lead, and they held on for a 6-5 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first.
Larry Hubbard (Collierville, Tenn./St. George's Independent HS) worked a leadoff walk and scored on a double by
Jaime Soto (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS).
• The Cardinals (1-1) tied the game with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, cashing in on two singles, a hit batter and a sacrifice.
• WJC took their only lead of the day in the bottom of the third with a run on a two-out single and a triple.
• The Bucs tied it back up in the top of the fifth. Taylor Angley-Holman led off with a double and moved to third on a
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) single before scoring on a balk.
• CBU took the lead for good in the seventh. Singles by Angley-Holman and Hubbard, followed by a two-out walk to Soto loaded the bases.
Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) plated them all with a triple, and he scored on a
Parker Jordan (Southaven, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) single to give the Bucs a 6-2 cushion.
• The Cardinals cut the CBU lead in half in the bottom of the inning with two runs on a pair of two-out walks and a double.
• WJC scratched out another run in the bottom of the eighth on two walks, a groundout and a passed ball.
• The Cardinals put the tying run in scoring position in the ninth, but
Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) struck out the last batter to earn his second save of the week.
KEY STATS:
• Soto went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, a run and one RBI.
• Angley-Holman was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and two runs.
• Jordan went 2-for-5 with one RBI.
• Cramer was 1-for-4 with a triple, a hit by pitch, a run and three RBI.

Peyton Sanderlin (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) earned the win, allowing four runs as he scattered seven hits and three walks over six and two-thirds innings.
• Erwin picked up the save as he threw two and a third innings of relief, allowing one unearned run on a hit and two walks.
GAME 2: William Jewell 18, CBU 5
WHAT HAPPENED:
William Jewell exploded for 11 runs in the first two innings and scored in every inning as they won 18-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Cardinals plated six in the bottom of the first on three hit batters, two walks, a single and a triple.
• CBU scored a run in the top of the second.
Luke Wewers (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) singled and moved around to third as #T.J. Klutts# and Angley-Holman reached on a air of one-out errors. With two out, Hubbard singled to score Wewers.
• WJC scored five more in the third on a walk, a hit bater, an error, a single and two doubles.
• The Bucs scored four in the top of the third, all with two out. Jordan worked a one-out walk, and two-out walks to
Keagan Voss (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) and Klutts loaded the bases for Angley-Holman, who hit a two-run single.
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) followed with a single to score Klutts, and an error brought Angley-Holman home.
• The Cardinals scored a run in the third on a double, a passed ball and a groundout.Â
• WJC added four more in the fourth on a walk, an error, a hit batter, a triple and a double.
• The Cardinals plated another unearned run in the fifth on a double and a two-out error.
• WJC set the final margin with a run in the sixth on an error, a hit batter and a single.
