Box Score ROME, Georgia- The Lady Bucs came back from a 4-2 deficit to beat the Shorter 5-4 Saturday.
CBU took a 2-1 lead in doubles, with No. 1 team
Lauren Woog (Memphis, Tenn./Homeschooled) and
Tara McElroy (Dunboyne, Ireland/) winning 8-2 and No. 3 doubles squad
Melody Mays (Riverside, Calif./Canyon Springs HS) and
Brittany Weathersby (Ridgeland, Miss./Ridgeland HS) winning 8-4.
Meg Mattis (Cordova, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) and
Judit Aubets Macia (Sanauja, Spain/Lluis Peguera Manresa) were edged 9-7 to prevent the sweep in doubles.
Shorter claimed the first three singles points in straight sets, meaning CBU needed to sweep No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to claim the victory. Mays at No. 5 singles and Weathersby at No. 6 singles were on their way to straight-set victories when Mattis suffered an ankle injury in the second set at No. 4 singles after taking a 6-3 win in the first set. After a medical timeout and taping up her ankle, Mattis returned to the court, but she dropped the second set 7-5. Despite playing on the injured ankle, Mattis claimed a 6-3 win in the third set to give the Lady Bucs a 5-4 win.
