Boll Weevils Down Bucs 14-4, 3-2

MONTICELLO, Ark.-Host Arkansas-Monticello swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Friday afternoon, winning 14-4 in the opener and 3-2 in the second game.

GAME 1: UAM 14, CBU 4
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Boll Weevils (4-2) scored five runs in the third and six in the sixth on their way to a 14-4 win in the opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UAM opened the scoring with five runs in the third on two walks, a double, three singles and two errors.
• The Bucs (0-5) got on the board in the top of the fourth. Jaime Soto (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) worked a leadoff walk and moved to second when Parker Jordan (Southaven, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) grounded out, scoring on a #Taylor Angley-Holman single to left.
• The Boll Weevils added two runs to their lead in the bottom of the fourth on a double, a walk, a single and an error.
• CBU scored twice in the top of the fifth. #T.J. Klutts# drew a one-out walk, and Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) was hit by a pitch. Soto followed with an RBI single to score Klutts. A wild pitch moved Soto and Dodd to second and third, and Jordan reached on an error to bring Dodd home and cut the deficit to 7-3.
• UAM tacked on another run in the bottom of the inning on a hit batter, a stolen base and a two-out double.
• CBU scored a run in the top of the sixth. Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) legged out a one-out single and moved to second when Keagan Voss (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) was hit by a 3-2 pitch. With two out, Klutts scored Goodwin with a single to right.
• The Boll Weevils put it out of reach with a six-run sixth, taking advantage of three doubles, two singles, two walks and a hit batter for six runs.

KEY STATS:
• Goodwin went 1-for-1 with a walk and a run.
• Soto was 1-for-2 with two walks, a run and one RBI.
• Klutts went 1-for-2 with to walks, a run and one RBI.
• Angley-Holman was 1-for-4 with one RBI.
• Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) went 1-for-2 with a walk.

GAME 2: UAM 3, CBU 2
WHAT HAPPENED:
UAM took an early 3-0 lead and held on as the Bucs closed within a run in the fifth and put the tying run in scoring position in the seventh before taking a 3-2 loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Boll Weevils scored two runs in the first on two walks, two doubles and a run-scoring double play.
• A one-out Garrett Dodd homer extended the UAM lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
• CBU took advantage of an error to score twice in the fifth inning. Jordan led off with a single and moved to third when Angley-Holman reached on a two-base error. A Traylor groundout scored Jordan, and a Goodwin groundout plated Angley-Holman.
• Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) hit a two-out pinch-hit double in the top of the seventh to put the tying run in scoring position, but the Bucs were unable to push him across.

KEY STATS:
• Jordan went 1-for-3 with a run.
• Soto was 1-for-3.
• Dodd went 1-for-1 with a double.
• Ryan Taylor (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) threw two and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief, with four strikeouts against two hits and no walks.

WHAT'S NEXT:
Saturday's third game against UAM has been canceled due to incoming weather, with rain expected all day Saturday in Monticello. CBU returns to action Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they visit Rhodes. The Bucs' next home game is next Friday, Feb. 16, when they host William Jewell at 1 p.m.
