MEMPHIS-Visiting West Florida swept a Gulf South Conference twinbill from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon, winning the opener 9-4 and taking an 11-0 win in the nightcap.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bucs (5-14, 1-7 GSC) carried a 3-1 lead into the fifth, but West Florida (14-8, 6-2) scored in each of the final five innings to take a 9-4 win in the opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first.
Jaime Soto (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) walked and moved to second on a groundout, reaching third when
Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) reached on a two-out error.
Larry Hubbard (Collierville, Tenn./St. George's Independent HS) doubled down the right field line to score Soto, but Cramer was tagged out trying to score.
• The Argos plated a run in the top of the second on two singles and a first-and-third double-steal.
• The Bucs regained the lead in the bottom of the third.
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) led off with a single and scored when Soto doubled down the right field line. Soto came home when
Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) singled up the middle, giving the Bucs a 3-1 edge.
• UWF halved the Bucs' lead in the fifth on a two-out homer by Nic Strasser.
• The Argos tied it in the sixth on two singles and a successful squeeze bunt.
• UWF took its first lead of the day an inning later on a double and a pair of bunt singles with errors.
• The Argos added a run in the top of the eighth on two walks, a wild pitch and a successful first and third double-steal.
• UWF set the final margin with three in the top of the ninth on a hit batter, a walk, a double, a groundout and a wild pitch.
KEY STATS:
• Hubbard was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
• Soto went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, three runs and one RBI.
• Goodwin was 2-for-5 with a run.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
UWF scored in five of the game's seven innings and three pitchers combined for a five-hit shutout to complete the doubleheader sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Argos scored twice in the first on a pair of two-out singles and a double.
• UWF added a run in the second on a leadoff walk and a two-out triple.
• The Argos tacked on two more in the fourth on a Matthew Jones solo homer, a single and a double.
• UWF extended its lead to 6-0 in the fifth with a run on two walks and a two-out single.
• The Argos added five in the seventh on two doubles, three singles, a walk and an error.
KEY STATS:
• Angley-Holman was 2-for-3 with a double.
